Aren't there times you want to just shake people??

People like Pat Robertson??!!!  That says HORRIBLE things in the "name" of Christianity.
For over 10 years I have grappled with religion.  From going to a cult like conservitive Chrisitan school and then in college going against organized religion to my now current views.

I am at peace with what I believe.  My God loves us all.  Black, white, rich, poor, gay, straight.  He knows we make mistakes.  I think the best thing in this world that we could do to honor Him, is to live a life of kindness and peacefulness.  Taking care of our brothers and sister on this planet.  In essence being a global citizen.  I know I am FAR from perfect, but I try to live my life in this way.

People that spew hate and call themseleves Christians make my skin crawl.  When I saw the video of Pat Robertson saying this:

"Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it," Robertson said. "They were under the heel of the French ... and they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, 'We will serve you if you'll get us free from the French.'"

"True story," he continued. "And the devil said, 'OK, it's a deal.' Ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after another."

Really???!!!!

My friend sent me a like to this post and it was hilarious!  And I think my God would think it is too...

God, Jesus Announce Boycott of “The 700 Club”

Cite “Deep Philosophical and Religious Differences”

Las Vegas – January 13

Jesus Christ, flanked by God, appeared at an impromptu press conference today to announce that They will immediately begin boycotting the television show “The 700 Club”, as well as all of its advertisers and any other program or entity in any way affiliated with the show’s host, Christian Broadcasting Network founder Pat Robertson, and that They encourage “anyone within the sound of our voices to do the same”.

The unprecedented move by the world’s most famous Father and Son team followed remarks Robertson made regarding the tragic situation in Haiti, in which it is feared as many as 100,000 people may have perished as a result of yesterday’s earthquake. Robertson attributed the earthquake to what he described as a “pact to the Devil” made by the Haitian people to aid in their fight for liberation from Napoleon’s France.

“We’ve just had enough of this guy baselessly invoking Our names when discussing his personal beliefs, particularly when it comes to politics. Also, it’s not like he doesn’t know Who’s place it is to pass judgment, yet he continues to do so. We can only imagine that either he just doesn’t get it, or more likely, it’s all about ratings.” Mr. Christ went on to add, “And all those times he’s claimed to have spoken to Our Father here, all I have to say is, We have caller ID – the two have never had a conversation.”

When asked if God planned to “call home” the controversial Robertson, who may turn 80 in March, any time soon, He responded, “These things are never finalized until the moment comes, but as things stand right now, this one’s not His call”.

Plugs

Some of you might know I am a movie junkie.  Geoff and I usually go watch a movie on our date night at least a couple times a month.  Considering I now have class and am living sans my date night partner...movies nights have fallen by the wayside. There have been a couple time I have even gone by myself (gasp) Hey, coming from Savannah that hardley gets any independent movies to DC ...I'm like a kid in a candy store! It's like when I lived in LA and we saw movies before the general release dates.  Yes, I know I have a problem :)

Luckily I found a classmate that shares my love of movies and we have gone to a few (all tearjerkers darn it).

Here are my reviews before I head back into school mode.

MOVIES

Precious
Wow....moving, sad, infuriating.   Let's just say it's not going to be the feel good movie of the year.  It's raw, and you learn you can't judge people. You never know their entire situation and how they got where they are.

Brothers
Another sad and powerful movie.  Great acting.

It's Complicated
A LOT better than I thought it was going to be.  Alec Baldwin plays his role perfectly!  And Meryl Streep is anything but her prim and proper self.  Lot's of laughs.

The Road
How I wanted to like this movie.  I mean, come on it was based on Cormac McCarthay's Pulitzer prize winning novel. Let me say it took Debbie Downer to a whole new level.  Beyond depressing.  Tons of whining and gross zombies.  It's like it almost wanted to be a horror movie.  Sooooo disapointed!

Books
Love to read, but have not had as much time this semester to read anything but textbooks. Ever since I finshed my last paper...I have been trying to read as much as I can.

Loved it!!! Great read.  I haven't cried this much in a book.  If you have ever lost someone...wow.  Hit the nail on the head.

It was pretty good.  Quick read.  Good for a young adult book!

Great book!  Been a long time since I read something so powerful.

DVD

I stumbled on this mini series on Netflix.  LOVED IT!  If you love Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice...you'll love this version of what happens if you went back in time.  The guy that plays Darcy is wonderful in his sullen role.  Very cute and funny (be warned, it's 3 hours).

Holiday Wrap Up

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season!

I had a wonderful time! For Christmas the pups and I drove to Ashville/Black Mountain to meet Geoff's family at the cabin they rented.  We drank lots of hot chocolate and the dogs loved being snuggled by everyone :)

Which brings to me a question...what kind of gift "getter" are you?  When given a gift you know you will NEVER use, what do you do? Spare the person and accept the gift or tell them (nicely of course) that this might not be your style?

Exhibit A, B and C
Gifts given to me by my step-mother-in-law
Brace yourselves people....

Moose Vest purchased at a Moose store (I was there and she would not take no for an answer)

Hot pink snowman sweater

Snowman vest

Now, I might be wanting to teach elementary school kids...but last time I checked I was not 60.  I grew up in Southern California for goodness sake!  I could get arrested for wearing thar at my age!

I said nothing.  Don't want to hurt her feelings. And the icing on cake, my friend Brianne says for the rest of my life, I will be getting tacky Christmas sweater.  I hope someone at Goodwill appreciates them.  I'm thinking if she never sees them on me she might get the clue?  I appreciate the thought, but HELL NO am I going to wear those in public.  Socks and light up necklaces are my limit :)

Last week, Geoff drove from Savannah up to DC for New Years Weekend!  We were worried about snow, but it was only really cold rain.  For New Years we went to see a movie and went out with one of my classmates and her fiance to a nice italian place.

Then that evening our friends Jared, Laura and Carrie (and their dog Badger) came up from NC right in time for New Years!

Spoiled Jake on Carrie's lap

We spent New Years Day doing the touristy things in DC.  We hit Arlington cemetery and Georgetown and walked to my school.

Note to self:  Never leave the camera on manual mode and ask husband to take pictues.  This is the most "unblurry" of the bunch.

It was SOOOO COLD that we stayed home most of the time and just cooked meals at home and played a ton of board games.

Twilight Scene It anyone??
We had a great time with all our friends, and anytime I get to see Geoff is always a treat (8 months of not living in the same state SUCKS)!!!

And since classes are about to start and life will become crazy, my New Years Resolutions is ....peace.

Normally I have a big list of things I want to get accomplished, and that usually motivates me.  But I noticed after this crazy year, that with school and moving, that list was actually making my life more stressful.  I need to back at peace.  So I am really going to work on that this year.

And just to make sure I am on the right track....I will finish this post off  and make some Sleepy Time Tea and watch a chick flick on TV....ahhhhh peace.
